Mousa Alshibli

My name is Mousa Alshibli. I’m a journalist and civil activist.

I’ve been hyperactive and energetic since I was a little child. As I grew up, I believed I must invest my energy to benefit others as well as myself. I’ve always initiated positive change among my friends and in my community, even by arranging simple events such as campaigns for cleaning streets and distributing free water.

However, it was hard to move forward when everything was changing, but eventually, I became more involved in my new community. I made new friends and regained my passion for civil activism. I participated in many events, especially debates. This helped me fill the hole I felt in my life, and everything was finally back to normal.

The event that impacted me the most, though, was my participation as an observer in the elections of municipal council of Tripoli Center. Every Libyan city suffers from administrative negligence, bad services, and dilapidated infrastructure, yet so many people still choose not to vote. I believe that if we don’t even try to make a change, then we have no right to complain. And we youth have a notable role in making the change we want to see.

Nowadays, I am more focused on raising political and legal awareness and promoting participation of youth in the upcoming elections through my work as a journalist. Geography never stopped me from being an active and responsible citizen. It doesn’t matter whether I am residing in the eastern or western region as long my work revolves around my sole purpose: Libya.
