Rasha Al-Deeb

My name is Rasha Al-Deeb, I am 26 years old, and I am a director and screenwriter.

When I was a child, I always acted innocently and randomly, and I was the leader in charge of the games and the distribution of roles during a play. I loved playing the role of a director since childhood and created my stage from my inspired imagination.

During religious and social events, I used the opportunity to show my talent in acting, and directing through dance performances, presentations, and sometimes even performing plays that would change the atmosphere. Children often got upset with me because I’ve always played the role of the director… Hence was my humble beginning.

Actually, I’ve always dreamt of being a filmmaker, and I pledged myself to fulfill this dream.

When I took my decision to become a filmmaker, society hasn’t taken mercy upon me because I am a female, not to mention the psychological pressure due to some family members.

When I decided to join the Faculty of Arts and Media, I faced difficulties due to the stereotypical image of this major and the masculine outlook, even from my classmates and work colleagues, that women cannot be managers, leaders, and have ideas, decisions, or even dreams.

In their opinion, if your major is purely scientific, it indicates your intelligence and the wisdom of your mind, and the more practical the major was, this indicates your lower level of intelligence. When I said loudly that I made my decision to join the College of Arts and Media, everyone thought that I had not excelled, or succeeded, or even achieved a competitive average with my colleagues, they thought that I had not got an average that would allow me to enter a different college. However, I did not care about all these rumors, and my passion and love for this major were not affected.

I hope someday everyone knows that we do not need to distinguish people according to their specialties, standards of living, or according to their gender because what distinguishes us from each other is our actions.
